Two Solar PV Publications in March 2017

Towards the end of March 2017 MAKE published two brand new publications concerned with solar PV: the Solar PV Power Market Outlook Update and the Global Solar PV Power Supply Chain Market Report

Solar PV Power Market Outlook Update

Today’s top markets in the solar PV power industry added 74.7GW of capacity in 2016, resulting in the highest year of annual grid-connected capacity. Annual grid-connected capacity in the China market increased 129% YoY to 34.5GW, following a FIT deadline induced rush in 2016. The rest of the key markets added approximately 40GW of capacity. A critical transition period for the global industry continues in 2017, as policy regimes in several markets globally shift to auction-based mechanisms.

Global Solar PV Power Supply Chain 2017

The global solar supply chain faces sub-stantial challenges, as the scale of the market has increased both in terms of the power output of components being used and their volume. For the coming year of 2017, the market for modules is expected to be oversupplied by ~10GW, while at the same time, bankability of modules remain a concern as several existing projects suffer from panel de-fects. Mono-modules have gained fur-ther traction and several OEMs have highlighted their desire to shift focus to either high-efficiency multi-modules or mono modules.
